Bogalusa’s Lumberjacks suffered a 7-2 loss against the Amite Warriors in Tuesday’s district home game.

Amite (7-10, 3-2) tallied three runs over the last two innings to widen the gap in a game that was close throughout.

Trevion Harris, who batted second, came through for his club, going 2-for-3 with two runs batted in. Harris recorded run-scoring singles in the third and fifth innings.

“I wouldn’t say it was my best, but I did good tonight,” Harris said.

Bogalusa coach Michael Cummings said Harris stepped up.

“He’s kind of been in a slump,” Cummings said. “I’ve been having him in the nine hole, and I put him in the two hole. My No. 1 (Ashed Levi) has been getting on, so I put him there and he busted out of his slump tonight. He put the bat on the ball and drove some runs in for us.”

The game was scoreless through two innings, as early on the teams had trouble generating any kind of offense.

The contest featured just one baserunner through the first two frames. Bogalusa’s Tim Brown singled with two outs in the first.

Amite got a good performance from senior starting pitcher Cody Addison, who threw six innings, allowing two runs (one earned) on five hits with five strikeouts and a walk. At the plate, Addison helped himself by recording two singles.

“We’ve still got to hit the ball better,” Addison said. “We didn’t hit the ball very good (four hits) tonight, but we put the pressure on them and ended up scoring some runs. This is a big confidence boost for us. That’s what we need.”

Amite got on the board with three runs in the third. Jervenski Johnson and Justin Green were hit to begin. Norman Turner reached on an error when a flip to first from the pitcher was dropped, and it allowed Johnson to tally and give the Warriors a 1-0 lead. Green moved to third on the play, and that was big because, with runners on the corners, Turner attempted to steal second. The throw went back to the pitcher and Green got caught in a rundown. Bogalusa’s third baseman bobbled the throw and Green crossed the plate for a 2-0 advantage. Turner moved to third on a wild pitch, and after a strikeout, followed by a walk to Andrew Meister, Adrian Sieber made it 3-0 with a sacrifice fly.

The Lumberjacks responded with one in their half. Harlum McGee reached on an error before advancing on a wild pitch. With two outs Harris came up with his first clutch hit of the game, an RBI single to center, trimming Amite’s lead to 3-1.

Amite increased it to 4-1 the next inning. Cody Crowe led off with a walk. Johnson reached on a fielder’s choice, as the Lumberjacks recorded a force out. Johnson did the rest. He took second on a wild pitch. Bogalusa attempted to pick him off at second, but he took off for third and beat the play. He later scored on a wild pitch for a 4-1 lead.

The Lumberjacks continued to battle back. McGee began the fifth by walking and went to second on a passed ball. He scored when Harris singled to left center field, and the Warriors’ lead was 4-2.

But Amite tallied twice in the sixth and once more during the seventh.

Whitney Franklin opened the sixth by lining a single off of the third baseman’s glove. Crowe did a nice job of hitting behind the runner on a hit-and-run, logging an infield single. After Johnson walked, Green grounded into an RBI fielder’s choice as the Lumberjacks got the force at third, and it was 5-2. The final run crossed on a wild pitch.

Amite put up another run in the seventh. Addison singled with one out and courtesy runner Kenner Harrell stole second and third before scoring on a balk.

Bogalusa had just one hit over the final two innings, a Fred Brooks sixth-inning single, but the Jacks could not get any closer in the 7-2 setback.
