Franklinton’s Demons won first place for the third consecutive week in the fifth week of the Northlake Golf League, which occurred Tuesday at Gemstone Plantation Club.

The Demons’ top four golfers combined to shoot a 384. Franklinton was one stroke ahead of Hammond, and Lakeshore (413) rounded out the scoring for the three qualifying teams.

Zach Ginn led the Demons with an 88. He dropped 10 strokes off of his score from two weeks ago, which was the first time this season the league played 18 holes.

Ginn was third overall with 20 golfers competing for top honors.

Salmen’s Jeremy Engeran won the event with a 78, seven shots ahead of Hammond’s George Royse, who was runner-up.

Hammond’s Brandon Dalon was fourth with a 92. The fifth spot had a three-way tie at 94 with Hammond’s J.P. Flanagan, Lakeshore’s Jacin Morrison and Salmen’s Judson Darnell.

FHS’ Taylor Smith (95) was eighth with Pearl River’s Luke Kemp (98) ninth and Franklinton’s Michael Scallan (99) rounding out the top 10.

Demons’ coach Steven Burris said things went pretty well for his team Tuesday.

“We are very young with three freshmen, one sophomore, one junior and two seniors and only one returning player from last year’s squad (Smith),” Burris said. “It’s been a great year for this group of kids to accomplish what they have. Going into the year I wasn’t expecting to win one tournament much less to have a chance to win the league for the third year in a row. I’m very proud of this group of kids.”

In the girls match, Hammond was the only team to qualify for team honors. The Lady Tornadoes had 216 between their two golfers.

Just four golfers competed. Hammond’s Sarah Hunt topped the field with 95, followed by Lakeshore’s Ireland Crosby (114).
