Varnado wins district opener

Varnado erased a 3-0 deficit and opened district with an 8-6 victory over Southern Lab Monday at the Bogalusa Sports Complex.

Southern Lab got out to a 3-0 lead and held a 4-2 advantage through fou innings. Varnado put up four runs in the fifth to take a 6-4 lead before capturing the victory.

Isaiah Alexander led the Wildcats, going 2-3 while driving in a run, scoring twice and stealing a base. Kyle Slocum tallied a hit with an RBI and a run, while Nick Darden and Errol Varnado both posted a hit. Jaylan Jefferson and Reggie Green had a run each.

Jefferson picked up the win on the mound. He was the third Varnado pitcher used and threw three innings, allowing one run on one hit with six strikeouts and two walks. It was his third victory this season.

Middle reliever Dominique Harry was solid in middle relief, giving up one run on two hits with four strikeouts and two walks in 2.2 innings.
