Franklinton wins 10th straight

Franklinton continued to stay hot Tuesday, winning its 10th consecutive game with a 3-1 district opening victory over Pearl River at home.

Kevin Simmons (2-2) had a big day for the Demons (11-5), throwing a complete game one hitter with 13 strikeouts, four walks and a hit batter. The Rebels’ lone hit occurred in the third inning.

The Demons played small ball to score two of their runs. Josh Magee and Jared Varnado both drove recorded an RBI by putting down a safety squeeze. Magee finished with two hits, while Varnado tallied one. Austin Armand drove in the other run. It was Demons’ coach Jeff Tageant’s 395th-career win.

Ben’s Ford downs Prentiss

Ben’s Ford Christian School’s Destin Pittman and Cole Edward combined for five hits and seven runs batted in during a 15-1 victory over Prentiss at home Tuesday. Pittman went 3-3 with three RBIs, while Edward finished with two hits and four driven in. Edward also got the win, throwing three innings and allowing one run on two hits with two strikeouts and no walks.

Josh Crain, Cody Stewart and Brian Hines all posted a hit and an RBI. Shelby Culpepper and Jordan Thomas both recorded a hit, while Daniel Pittman drove in a pair of runs.

Ben’s Ford (6-5, 3-0) started yesterday’s play having outscored its opponents 31-2 over the last two games.

Bowling Green falls to Centreville

Bowling Green’s Buccaneers were defeated 11-1 by Centreville in Tuesday’s road game. The Buccaneers jumped ahead 1-0 in the fourth inning when Roo Breland scored on a passed ball. Centreville tied things in the fifth and then scored 10 runs to close things out in the sixth.

Russ Smith accounted for Bowling Green’s only hit. He was also intentionally walked twice.
