Girls relay team edges out the competition at the Judy Baehr

Franklinton’s 4×100-meter relay team captured a victory at the Judy Baehr Relays, which St. Thomas Aquinas hosted Friday at the St. Scholastica Academy Sports Complex in Covington.

Franklinton (53.26), which consisted of Denetra Rayford, Brandi Pittman, Lakerian Warron and Sharonica Thomas, edged out Walker (53.57) for the top spot. Pine (56.48) was fifth.

St. Thomas Aquinas (120) topped the 13-team competition by just 12 points over St. Scholastica Academy. Walker (90) was third, followed by Isidore Newman (66) and Louise McGehee (43). Franklinton (21) was eighth, and Pine (6) placed 13th.

Newman’s Tiffany Wilson was named the overall MVP. SSA teammates Lauren Despeaux and Samantha Zelden were co-field MVPs, and Walker’s Mia Zachary took home the track MVP.

Wilson bested the triple jump (32-4.25), finished runner-up in the 400 (1:01) and was third in the 200 (27.24).

St. Thomas’ Schuylar Ramsey (26.72) topped the 200, with Franklinton’s Warren (28.46) sixth, Pine’s Keeli Clark (29.71) ninth, FHS’ Thomas (30.36) 11th and PHS’ Chelsea Rogers (34.82) 19th.

Despeaux won the discus (94-3) and was second for the shot put (29-3.5).

STA’s Regan Bolton (29-4) won the shot put.

Pine’s Racheal Williams (22-7) was 12th in shot put competition, with FHS teammates Keona Martin (20-0) and Whitney Warren (19-10.5) 19th and 20th and Pine’s Deja Barnes (18-1) 22nd.

FHS’ Breana Hebert (53-7) was 15th in the discus.

Zeldon topped the javelin (119-5) event and was runner-up in the discus (87-3). Hebert (86-7) was sixth in the javelin.

Zachary was runner-up in both hurdles, the 100 (18.12) and 300 (50.99). St. Thomas Aquinas teammates Taylor Kast (18.09) and Courtney Dawsey (50.43) were the 100- and 300-meter hurdles champions, respectively.

St. Thomas Aquinas (1:48) won the 4×200 relay, with St. Scholastica (4:13) taking the 4×400. Pine (1:59) took fifth during the 4×200. Franklinton was eighth for the 4×200 (2:02) and seventh during the 4×400 (5:57).

Louise McGehee’s Gabrielle Davis (13.00) edged out Franklinton’s Rayford (13.09) in the 100 with Pine’s Chelsea Willard (13.42) fifth, and Franklinton’s Brandi Pittman (14.91) 13th.

St. Thomas’ Avrielle Steward (1:00) took home the 400 with FHS’ Alonna Brumfield (1:20) along with PHS’ Danika Johnston (1:43) and Shanece Bickham (1:49) running in slots 14-16.

St. Scholastica’s Madison McDaniel (2:21) captured the 800 with FHS’ Madison Jordan (3:32) 16th and teammate Chelsea Baham (3:46) 18th.

Holden’s Clarissa Smith (5:24) was best in the 1,600, and FHS’ Briana Tuminello (8:28) was 18th.

First Baptist Christian School’s Gabrielle Jennings (11:28) outran the 3,200 competition to win that event, SSA’s Mary Grace Gitz (5-4) was first in the high jump, Walker’s Kristen Baudoin (10-6) won the pole vault and McGehee’s Sydney Reynolds (15-11) won the long jump.

FHS’ Destinee McClain (12-7) was sixth in the long jump.
