Bowling Green downs ASC

Bowling Green’s James Lavigne went 3-for-3 with three runs scored and an RBI, while Jason Crowe and Russ Smith posted two hits and a pair of RBIs each in a 10-5 non-district road win over Amite School Center Saturday.

Thomas LeBlanc had two hits and tallied twice.

Franklinton completes sweep

Franklinton defeated Fontainebleau for the second straight day Friday, this time 12-6 at home, as coach Jeff Tageant moved a win closer to 400. He had 394-career victories at press time, and his team began yesterday’s district opener with a 10-5 record and on a nine-game winning-streak. Tanner Jenkins went 2-for-4 with two RBIs, while Josh Magee and Jared Varnado both tallied two hits. Morgan Angelo posted one hit with thee runs batted in. C.J. Estave, Will McCullough and Terrance Robinson all put up a hit.

Angelo was the winning pitcher in relief, throwing four innings and allowing two runs with a strikeout. Varnado threw the final two frames of shutout ball.

Ben’s Ford downs Sylva Bay

A day after falling to Sylva Bay 5-0 at home, Ben’s Ford Christian School rebounded in a big way, defeating the Saints 16-1 on the road Friday.

Cole Edward tallied three hits and two runs batted in. He was one of five Eagles (5-5) with multiple hits. Destin Pittman and Jordan Thomas both finished with two hits, including a double and two runs batted in. Josh Crain singled twice and drove in a pair. Garrett Pounds singled twice. Shelby Culpepper singled with two RBIs.

Daniel Pittman doubled with an RBI and put down a sacrifice bunt. Brian Hines also doubled and drove in a run.

Winning pitcher Pittman threw four shutout innings, allowing seven hits with two strikeouts and three walks.

Pine, Bogalusa, Varnado in tourney

Pine posted a 2-1 record in the Holden Tournament Thursday through Saturday, and Bogalusa and Varnado were both 1-2.

After defeating Bogalusa 15-5, Pine backed up its win with a 13-2 victory over Varnado.

Pine’s Jordan Phelps singled, doubled and drove in a pair, while Nick Adcox and Trevor Stuart both singled twice and finished with an RBI. Hunter Cooper, Trey Cooper and Devin Phillips all singled and drove in two.

Isaiah Alexander and D.J. Jefferson led Varnado, both going 2-for-3. Alexander drove in a run, and Jefferson had a double. The Wildcats suffered a 12-2 setback Thursday. Isaiah Alexander, Kyle Slocum, Jaylen Jefferson and Xavier Moses all singled.

Pine’s lost its game 5-2 against Jewel Sumner Saturday.

Phelps doubled and drove in both runs, while Connor Ard, Hunter Cooper, Trey Cooper and Adcox all singled.

Varnado captured a 16-3 victory over Episcopal of Acadiana Saturday.

D.J. Jefferson got things rolling quickly, homering on the game’s first pitch.

Errol Varnado went 3-for-4 with three RBIs, Robbie Smith posted two hits and three runs batted in. Alexander and Slocum both went 2-for-2 with a pair of RBIs. Reggie Green and Darius Parker both logged a hit and an RBI.

Bogalusa played a pair of games Saturday following its loss to Pine Thursday and off day Friday.

The Lumberjacks opened Saturday with a 4-3 extra-inning victory over Scotlandville in nine, as Tim Brown had the game-winning walk-off single, plating Kentrell Anders with the winning run.

Ashed Levi drove in two runs, while Anders had a hit. Levi was the winning pitcher, throwing two innings of relief with four strikeouts.

Trevion Harris started and got the no decision after throwing seven innings with eight strikeouts.

The Lumberjacks lost the second contest 10-0 to Maurepas.

Cole Hopkins’ fourth-inning single accounted for Bogalusa’s only hit.

Bowling Green swept in doubleheader

Bowling Green was swept by Central Private 7-3 and 11-1 in Friday’s road doubleheader.

Trent Ball, Devin Smith and Russ Smith all posted a hit and an RBI during the first game for Bowling Green, which was 1-5 in district at press time.

Russ Smith drove in the Buccaneers’ lone run in the second contest. Thomas LeBlanc and James Lavigne both put up a hit.
