A parent workshop was held at Denhamtown Elementary School in February, with the focus on healthy eating and living a healthy lifestyle. The school nurse, Lisa Murray, Kathi Adams, special population nurse, and Joanie Miller, supervisor of child nutrition programs, were the presenters. Parents received vital information on what they can do as a parent to help their children and themselves remain healthy. Tremendous development from a cognitive, emotional and social standpoint occurs in childhood. Developing bones, teeth, muscles and blood require plenty of nutritious food. Parents should model healthy eating and physical activity for their children during this important time to build healthy habits for a lifetime. Adequate nutrition, especially breakfast, has been linked to learning and improved academic performance in school.
