Local girls score at Cowgirl Relays

Belle Chasse won the girls side with 160 points, ahead of Kentwood (114), as nine clubs participated in the Cowgirl Relays at Jewel Sumner Friday.

Independence (84) was third, followed by Loranger (59) and Sumner (58) to cap off the top five. Washington Parish teams occupied the final four places with Franklinton (35), Varnado (18), Pine (5) and Mt. Hermon (1), sixth through ninth.

Kentwood’s Darnelia Muse won three individual events, the 100 (13.12) and both hurdles, the 100 (16.35) and 300 (47.81).

Franklinton’s Denetra Rayford (13.68) was fourth during the 100, followed by Pine’s Chelsea Williard (13.78) and FHS’ Tyeishia Anders (13.78).

Mt. Hermon’s Katelyn Fortenberry (22.94) finished sixth in the 100 hurdles, while Varnado teammates Kenisha Kemp (57.83) and Jaden Foster (1:01) were fourth-and-sixth, respectively, during the 300 hurdles.

There were two double-event winners for the girls in Belle Chasse’s Darian St. Ann and Kentwood’s De’Kevia Nichols.

St. Ann bested the 800 (2:37) and 3,200 (13:12). Nichols topped the discus (88-1) and javelin (90-5).

FHS’ Breanna Herbert was runner-up during the javelin (88-6) and fourth in the discus (67-6).

Teammate Makayla Magee (79-1) took fourth for the javelin, followed by Varnado teammates Christina Smith (71-8) and Kemp (68-2).

Belle Chasse won two relays, the 4×200 (1:51) and 4×400 (4:37).

FHS (1:59), Varnado (2:00.25) and Pine (2:00.33) were third-fifth in the 4×200.

Kentwood (51.10) captured the 4×100 with Franklinton (53.73) third and Pine (56.81) sixth.

Kentwood’s Raquel Davis topped the 200 (26.50) with teammate Nykedira Pool winning the triple jump (32-10.25).

VHS’ Ke’airria Green (29.35) was fourth in the 200, followed by FHS’ Lakerian Warren (29.50).

Independence’s Ireyon Keith topped the long jump (17-1) with teammate Ordashia Coston taking the shot put (29-11).

VHS’ Bianca Holmes (24-3) was fifth for the shot put.

Sumner’s Scotti Dykes bested the 1,600 (6:08) and Breonne Williams captured the pole vault (8-6).

Belle Chasse’s Christine Brown topped the 400 (1:05) and Loranger’s Brittany Washington took the high jump (4-10).
