Franklinton’s Cooper and Pine’s Carter win an event each at Cowgirl Relays

Franklinton’s Quinton Cooper and Pine’s Demario Carter both captured an event during the Cowgirl Relays, hosted by Jewel Sumner Friday.

Copper won the javelin (160-2), outdistancing Sumner’s Freddie Moreno (149-4). Mt. Hermon’s Alex Winters (141-9) was third.

Carter topped the long jump (21-4), beating out Sumner’s Miquel James (21-3). FHS’ James Magee (19-10) finished third with Varnado’s Delrick Abram (19-7) fifth.

Sumner’s Leonel Moreno was a triple-event winner, besting the 800 meters (2:04), 1,600 (4:46) and 3,200 (10:47).

Franklinton’s Tim Smith was sixth for the 800 (2:30), while Pine’s Cody Cooper took third during the 1,600 (5:03).

Loranger’s D.D. Magee and Belle Chasse’s Robert Kennedy were both crowed in two events.

Magee won the 110 hurdles (17:31) and triple jump (40-11). Kennedy took the discus (146-4) and shot put (44-10).

FHS’ Josh Owens was fifth for the 110s (22.44), while teammate Kemo Magee recorded a third during the triple jump (39-8).

Mt. Hermon’s Winters (108-9) was sixth for the discus.

Sumner swept the relays, winning the 4×100 (43.38), 4×200 (1:30) and 4×400 (3:45).

Pine (45.90), Varnado (46.52) and FHS (47.19) were fourth through sixth respectively in the 4×100.

Franklinton (1:38), VHS (1:39.17) and Pine (1:39.24) were fourth through sixth for the 4×200.

Franklinton (4:13) was third in the 4×400, followed by Mt. Hermon (4:32).

Sumner’s Dion Hart took the 100 (11.08) with Pine’s Derrick Dillon (11.58) runner up, followed by Carter (11.82). FHS’ Azende Magee was fifth (12.07).

Sumner’s Kalon Bergeron topped the 200 (22.76). FHS’ Martavius James (23.75) was fourth, followed by Pine’s Carter.

Independence’s Ivan Gray won the 400 (52.70). Pine’s Cody Cooper (56.75) and FHS’ Josh Owens (58.53) were fourth and fifth, respectively.

Belle Chasse’s Randy Graffe topped the 300 hurdles (47.48) with FHS’ Azende Magee (50.08) runner-up and Mt. Hermon’s Anthony Brumfield (50.91) third.

Belle Chasse’s Nick Arbourgh captured the pole vault (10-0).

Kentwood’s Keldrick Winters was crowned for the high jump (5-9) in a tiebreaker over Pine’s Derrick Dillon. VHS’ Donta Carter (5-6) was sixth.

Sumner won the nine-team competition with 154 points. Belle Chasse (109) was second, followed by Kentwood (78), Loranger (61) and Franklinton (52) rounded out the top five.

Pine (49) was sixth with Mt. Hermon (17) seventh and Varnado (7) ninth.
