Bogalusa’s Alexander named first teamer

Bogalusa’s Gabrielle Alexander was selected a first-team all-District 8-3 player and the Lady Jacks had four honorable mention players.

Alexander, a senior, averaged 24.5 points per game in district, while grabbing nine rebounds.

The Lady Jacks finished with a 9-16 overall record and third in district at 4-6. Bogalusa made the playoffs as the 29th seeded team, but suffered a 79-32 loss to fourth seeded Notre Dame, who reached the quarterfinals.

Albany senior Danielle Keith was named the district’s Most Valuable Player, while her coach Justin Adams was the Coach of the Year.

Albany senior Shelby Stewart was also a first teamer along with Amite senior LaDashia Brown and Loranger’s McKayla Willie.

The second team featured two Albany and Independence players.

Albany senior Nyeshia Harris along with teammate Lauren Thompson made the club, as did Independence juniors Ordaisha Coston and Ireyon Keith. Amite sophomore Jakoya Cryer was also a second teamer.

Three Bogalusa players were tabbed honorable mentions, including Shanekqua Mingo, Megion Parker and Darria Phillips.

Loranger had four honorable mentions with Debani Crayton, Chelsea James, Keirra Sims and Kelsey Lee.

Amite placed two players on the honorable mention list, including Calvinitra Fischer and Danara Thomas.

The rest of the honorable mentions were Albany’s Elizabeth Sykes, Independence’s Jireh Brumfield and Sumner’s Taylor Pittman.
