Franklinton tallies late to down Salmen

Franklinton’s Haley Sanford and Brittney Burch both recorded four hits, helping the Lady Demons comeback for a district opening 10-4 road victory over Salmen Tuesday. Sanford also drove in a run and posted three steals, while reaching base five times with the other being on a walk. Burch doubled twice, swiped five bases and drove in three. Ragen Chauvin finished 3-5 with two RBIs. Baylee Mixon singled, walked twice, drove in a run and scored four. Darrien Dykes also singled in Franklinton’s 13-hit attack. Winning pitcher Dykes went all seven innings, allowing three earned runs on seven hits with four strikeouts. Salmen led 3-1 after the first, but the Lady Demons (5-3) scored a run in each of the first four innings before tallied three during the sixth-and-seventh frames.

Pine falls to Pope John Paul II

Pine’s Lady Raiders suffered a 16-3 loss to Pope John Paul II’s Lady Jaguars in their district opener at home Tuesday. Kelsey Perry doubled and drove in two for Pine (3-3). Kayla Temples finished 2-3 with both hits being doubles and a run batted in.
