Franklinton tops Sumner

Franklinton’s Tanner Jenkins collected two hits, including a solo homer in the Demons’ 5-3 road win over Jewel Sumner Tuesday. The Demons, who were 4-5 at press time, tallied a run each in the third-seventh inning. Sumner put up a run during the fourth before adding two more in the seventh. Jared Varnado tripled and scored, while Brandon Thomas singled. Courtesy runner Donovan Alonzo stole three bases and scored three times. Winning pitcher Morgan Angelo threw the first five innings, allowing one unearned run with eight strikeouts and three walks.

Bowling Green plays extra innings against Oak Forest

Bowling Green’s Devin Smith recorded an eighth-inning walk-off sacrifice fly, plating Thomas LeBlanc with the winning run, helping the Buccaneers begin district with a 3-2 extra-inning victory over Oak Forest Tuesday. The sacrifice fly capped a strong game for Smith (1-0), who was also the winning pitcher in relief of Thomas LeBlanc. Smith threw the final 3.1 innings of hitless ball, striking out two and walking two. LeBlanc was also solid, giving up two runs (one earned) with eight strikeout and five walks in 4.2 frames. Caleb Creel doubled and walked, while Russ Smith coaxed three free passes. Bowling Green is 5-1 overall.

Ben’s Ford defeats Heidelberg Academy

Ben’s Ford’s Garrett Pounds and Brian Hines both went 3-4 and Cole Edwards pitched a gem in a 7-1 victory over Heidelberg Academy to begin district at home Tuesday. Edwards threw a complete game four hitter without allowing an earned run and he struckout 10. Edwards was economical with his pitches, needing just 73. The Eagles (3-3) broke open a 5-1 lead with a three-run sixth before adding two more in the seventh. Shelby Culpepper and Josh Crain both recorded a hit and two RBIs. Dustin Pittman logged one hit, while Cody Stewart produced a sacrifice fly and Daniel Pittman added a run batted in.

Pine suffers a tough loss

Pine’s Raiders suffered a 5-4 loss to Independence in Tuesday’s road game on a walk-off single to right field. Pine trailed 4-1 through six innings, but tallied three during the seventh to even things 4-4. Independence tallied the winning run in bottom of the frame. Hunter Cooper singled and drove in a pair. Trey Cooper and Tanner Graham both doubled. Jordan Phelps and Danny Smith and Trevor Stuart all singled. Evan Vasalech was the losing pitcher. He threw 1.1 innings of relief, allowing one run on four hits.
