Fontainebleau’s Jaclyn Scholvin saved her best for last in the third annual Hannan Hustle, scoring a career-high 37 points in a 59-52 comeback victory over Pine Saturday.

FHS trailed much of the game that saw the teams be whistled for 51 fouls. Things started to turn around for the Lady Bulldogs in the third period.

Trailing 39-32 with 4:03 left, FHS started closing the gap. Scholvin split free throws before driving to the hoop for a layup, then she hit a 3-pointer from the right corner, trimming Pine’s lead to 39-38.

The Lady Raiders held the advantage 44-43, and Kaylee Turnage grabbed an offensive rebound and got the putback at the buzzer.

FHS began the final period on a 6-0 run. Jenna Scholvin, who had 10, knocked down a pair of free throws, then Arianna Landry split from the charity stripe to tie things. Jenna Scholvin then nailed a trey, giving FHS a 49-46 lead with 5:12 on the clock.

From there, FHS never trailed again. They led by as many as seven, which they did three times at 55-48, 57-50 and then 59-52 at the end.

Pine coach Tate Kennedy said early foul trouble hurt his team.

“I had starters on the bench,” Kennedy said. “They were a tough team. We knew they were going to be tough. They beat us last year twice, and they beat us this year once. When you’re in a position where you have to foul and they are a good free-throw shooting team, odds are you are not going to get it at the end and we knew that. We didn’t finish in the third quarter when we should have.”

The nine-team tournament occurred Thursday through Saturday. Each team had one player make the all-tournament squad. Besides Jaclyn Scholvin, the rest were the host team’s Rachael LePere, Lakeshore’s Deja Lewis, Northlake Christian School’s Taylor Traugott, Pearl River’s Rachel Pyke, St. Scholastica Academy’s Megan Feringa, Parkview Baptist’s Leah Collins, Pine’s Breyanna Brown and Varnado’s Tarraly Moses.

In Friday’s action, FHS defeated Varnado, 45-31. Varnado’s Nyliyah Mingo scored 13 points. Moses and Tikandra Lewis both had six.

Ålso, Pearl River edged Varnado, 44-43. Varnado’s Moses put up 17 in that game, while Mingo scored seven and Biance Holmes logged six.

Pine beat Lakeshore, 40-36, and Hannan, 47-27.
