Ponemah hit by storm

Everyone who has or cares for a plot in Ponemah Cemetery in Bogalusa needs to go check it out.

The storms that went through the area at approximately 9:30 a.m. Monday left flowers and flags strewn, statues knocked over and broken, and even moved iron benches.

Most of the damage is located in the area north of the mausoleum, which lost roofing metal to the storm. The strips could be seen littered up to several yards away from the building.

Wind damage was also reported at McMillan’s Nursery, where a metal carport-like structure broke from its anchor and rolled across the roof of the store. Yoyo’s Restaurant on Louisiana Avenue suffered roof damage. And two vehicles parked outside Judge Robert Black’s office had their windows blown out.

At approximately 1 p.m. the Washington Parish Office of Emergency Preparedness reported that no tornado had been confirmed in the area, and said the damage could be attributable to strong straight-line winds.

No injuries were reported at that time.
