Host Northlake Christian scored on their first four possessions taking advantage of three Mt. Hermon turnovers on the way to a 34-12 victory in the nightcap of the Northlake Jamboree on Friday night at Wolverine Stadium.

“We had too many mistakes but this is the first live contact that we really have had,” Mt. Hermon coach Henry Crawford said. “It was going to be ugly but we hung in there and didn’t quit. It is tough to try and find some rest with our small numbers.”

The Wolverines amassed 192 total yards of offense on 25 plays with 116 on the ground and held the Yellowjackets to 125 yards on 26 plays.

Josh O’Rear completed 4-of-6 passes for 46 yards and two touchdowns and rushed for another for Northlake. Taylor Mussachia rushed for 63 yards and one touchdown

Alex Winters completed 4-of-8 passes for 83 yards and two touchdowns and rushed for 27 yards on eight attempts for Mt. Hermon. Nathan Jarrell caught three passes for 53 yards and two touchdowns and Brandon LaPharoahs rushed for 18 yards on four attempts.

Andrew Binder recovered a muff on the opening kickoff at the Yellowjacket 18 and four plays later O’Rear scored on a 5-yard run around right end.

Winters connected with Jarrell on an 11-yard touchdown pass with seven seconds remaining in the first half to cap an 8-play, 70-yard drive. Winters had runs of 8 and 9 yards and completed a 30-yard catch and run to Anthony Brumfield on the drive to go along with LaPharoahs 11-yard run.

Bryan Ortiz tackled Blake Dufrene for a 6-yard loss to stall the Wolverines’ opening possession of the second half

Jarrell ran into the end zone from 20 yards on a slant from Winters to cap the Yellowjackets’ final 7-play, 80-yard drive with 22 seconds remaining after Jarrell’s 22-yard reception and Winters’ 24 yard run.
