Demons, ’Jacks, Wildcats set for Washington Parish Jamboree

Franklinton, Bogalusa and Varnado begin their football season in the Washington Parish Jamboree at Franklinton’s Demon Stadium today.

The Lumberjacks tangle the Wildcats to kick things off at 5:30 p.m. followed by Pearl River and Archbishop Hannan. Franklinton takes on G.W. Carver in the nightcap.

“Everybody is excited and football is in the air,” Franklinton coach Shane Smith said. “We expect a good crowd here Friday night. It will be the first look everybody gets at the local teams to see what to expect from them this year.”

Franklinton is coming off a 5-6 season a year ago after claiming the District 7-4A tri-championship with a 3-1 mark. The Demons are led by Austin Armand, Brandon McMasters, Quinton Cooper, Kendrick Brumfield, Nick Mizell, Christian, Thomas, Daryl Fortenberry, Donovan Alonzo, Pierre Wilson, Enrique Garrett and Charmarl Magee.

Bogalusa struggled to finish in a 1-9 season a year ago under coach Craig Jones and were 0-5 in District 8-3A play. The Lumberjacks are led by Brian Williams, Trevonne Mingo, Cordero Brown, Jalen Graves, Darrin Holmes, Chris Lowery, Chris Rivera, DaMarcus Powell, Trey Thomas, Hamilton Richard and William Toussaint.

The Wildcats enter the season under new head coach Scott Shaffett after going 5-6 last season and 2-3 in District 7-1A under Paul Meyerchick. The Wildcats are led by Robbie Smith, Reggie Green, Keith Crumedy, Travel Graves, Bryan Miller, Preston Spikes, Markus Mark, Keith Allen, Tracey Lombas and Jordan Thomas.
