Pine scored the winning run on a walkoff double in the bottom of the seventh inning to claim a 9-8 District 8-2A victory over Northlake Christian on Tuesday evening at Lady Raider Field.

The Lady Raiders overcame allowing five runs in the first inning to avenge a 12-2 loss to the Lady Wolverines earlier in the season and remain in the thick of the district race.

“Our girls fell in a slump last week but we feel good after this one  and know that we can continue to win,” Pine coach Tate Kennedy said.

Halie Turner got the win in the circle, striking out four seven innings.

Summer Ballard was 3-for-3 with three runs, two RBIs and two doubles. Callie Graves had two RBIs and Kimberly Williams and Ameliah Payne each scored two runs.

The Lady Raiders cut the deficit to 5-3 with two outs in the bottom of the first inning. Williams drew a walk before Payne and Ballard followed with singles to plate a run. Graves’ double crossed two more.

Northlake added a run in the third inning before Pine answered with three. Williams doubled and scored on Payne’s single before Ballard’s double added another run. Ballard scored on a steal.

Ballard and Graves each scored runs in the fifth inning to put Pine ahead 8-7 but the Lady Wolverines answered to tie the score 8-8. Ballard and Graves both hit doubles in the seventh inning with one out to provide the difference.
