BOGALUSA, LA — The football community in Washington Parish is abuzz with excitement as the Bogalusa Lumberjacks gear up for a crucial playoff game against the Union Parish Farmers. The game, scheduled for Friday, November 24 at 7:00 p.m., is part of the 2023 LHSAA Football Playoffs – Division III Non-Select tournament.
Under the guidance of third-year Head Coach Cyril Crutchfield, Bogalusa is looking to build on their impressive 2022 record of 9-2, where they were crowned District Champions. Despite losing 15 seniors from the previous season, including three experienced wide receivers, Coach Crutchfield remains confident in his team’s abilities, especially with four-year starting quarterback Ashton Levi at the helm. Levi, known for his dual-threat capabilities, threw 2,127 yards with 23 touchdowns and only four interceptions in 2022 while rushing for 318 yards and eight touchdowns. The Lumberjacks advanced in the LHSAA Playoffs after their 28-7 win against Loreauville.

Though filled with younger talent, the Lumberjacks’ offense still poses a significant threat. Players like two-way starter RB/LB Michael Burton and WR Desmond Ramirez, a sleeper recruit, are expected to make an impact. The team’s offensive line, featuring second-year starters OT Dayon Moses, OG Jakyrn Brock, and three-year starter OT Jayden Brice, brings stability and strength.
Union Parish, led by 18th-year Head Coach Joe Spatafora, boasts an impressive 2022 season record of 12-2, including a runner-up finish in the state championship. Despite a small senior class and losing key players, Coach Spatafora’s team is not to be underestimated. The Farmers’ offense is expected to continue its strong performance, with RB Jy’marion Island and QB Jordan Hill returning to the field. Island had an impressive 1,003 yards rushing in 2022, while Hill, known for his athleticism and understanding of the offense, will be a crucial player.
The Farmers’ defense, with five returning starters, includes standout players like DT Tytravius Wallace and DE/OLB Tyquerius Wilson, who made All-State in 2022 with 184 tackles. This defense, known for its relentless pursuit, will be a formidable challenge for Bogalusa’s offense.
