Pair of tax renewals on ballot Dec. 11th

There is an election Saturday, Dec. 11, for two tax renewals for Washington Parish residents who live in the Bogalusa School District.

Polls open at 7 a.m. and close at 8 p.m.

The detailed propositions read as follows:

  • Bogalusa School District Proposition No. 1 of 2 (Millage Renewal) — Shall the Bogalusa School District of the Parish of Washington, State of Louisiana (the “District”), levy a special tax of twelve (12) mills (the “Tax”) on all the property subject to taxation in the District (an estimated $1,251,000 reasonably expected at this time to be collected from the levy of the Tax for an entire year), for a period of ten (10) years, beginning with the year 2023 and ending with the year 2032 solely for the purpose of paying salaries and benefits to all teachers and other personnel employed by the Bogalusa School Board?
  • Bogalusa School District Proposition No. 2 of 2 (Millage Renewal) — Shall the Bogalusa School District of the Parish of Washington, State of Louisiana (the “District”), levy a special tax of five and two hundredths (5.02) mills (the “Tax”) on all the property subject to taxation in the District (an estimated $523,200 reasonably expected at this time to be collected from the levy of the Tax for an entire year), for a period of ten (10) years, beginning with the year 2023 and ending with the year 2032, for the purpose of construction, maintenance, operation and improvement of the public elementary and secondary schools of the District, pursuant to Article VIII, Section 13(C)(Third) of the Louisiana Constitution of 1974, and other constitutional and statutory authority?

Voters are encouraged to utilize Louisiana’s award-winning, free smartphone app, GeauxVote Mobile, to locate Election Day voting sites or to view their sample ballot. GeauxBot, the virtual voter assistant, is also available to access pertinent election information such as registration deadlines, election dates, polling locations, and hours. GeauxBot is available 24 hours a day, seven days a week by visiting voterportal.sos.la.gov or by selecting Elections and Voting on sos.la.gov.

In response to the COVID-19 pandemic, polling commissioners will be supplied with personal protective equipment and will regularly sanitize designated areas and wipe down voting machines between each voter. Hand sanitizer will be provided to voters and masks are recommended, although not required.

In addition to a Louisiana driver’s license, a Louisiana Special ID or a generally recognized ID with picture and signature, voters may use a digital license via LA Wallet.
