Mr. Alan Dewey Blackwell, a resident of Cottonwood, Ala., passed away Thursday, Oct. 7, 2021, in Dothan, Ala., from COVID-related heart issues, at the age of 64.
Alan was born on Oct. 19, 1956, in New Orleans, to Dewey and Winnie Blackwell of Bogalusa.
Alan is survived by his sister, Marsha B. (Jerry) Hood; nephew, Darren (Teresa) Hood and their children Madeline and Harrison; niece, Angela Hood and her son Kaleb; and nephew, William Ashley (Summer) Hood and their children Taylor, Hannah, McKenzie, and Kingston. Alan is also survived by many cousins related to Fielding Mack and Ellen Adams on his maternal side and Otha and Katie Blackwell on his paternal side.
Alan had a beautiful tenor voice and loved being involved in church choirs and singing solos. He was faithful in attending Calvary Baptist Church in Cottonwood, where he resided for the last seven years. He was saved and baptized at Suburban Baptist Church in New Orleans. His next biggest true love was sports statistics. He kept a log of all kinds of football, baseball and basketball facts.
Alan loved his family, his neighbors and his church family. He will be sorely missed. Alan, we love you and always will and we are comforted that you knew and loved Jesus, which is our certain hope that we will be reunited again.
A visitation will be held Sunday, Oct. 10, at 2 p.m. for family and friends at Hillview Memorial Gardens, with services beginning at 3 p.m.
