Herbert R. Alexander Jr., 87, of Mandeville, died peacefully on hospice on Sept. 24, 2024.
Herbert was born in Jennings, La. to Herbert and Lula Alexander. He served four years in the United States Air Force as a jet engine mechanic. He did undergraduate work at USL in Lafayette and then attended Tulane Law School, where he graduated with a JD in 1971. He went on to work as an Assistant District Attorney for Orleans Parish under Jim Garrison, and then Assistant District Attorney and eventually First Assistant District Attorney for the 22nd Judicial District in Washington and St. Tammany parishes. He then went into private practice handling criminal defense until his retirement.
He was preceded in death by his father, Herbert Alexander Sr.; his mother, Lula Simoneaux; his son, Michael Alexander; his brother, Jud Alexander, and his nephews, Mark and Paul Alexander. He is survived by his son, Bryan Alexander; his daughter, Julie Gauthier-Murray (Richie); his ex-wife, Debbie Alexander; his step-son, Joe Gauthier (Leslie); his beloved granddaughters, Jourdan Gauthier, Peyton Gauthier-Curtis, and Avery Gauthier; his niece, Rene Alexander, and his nephew, Richard Alexander.
The family will conduct a private memorial event.
