During the late evening hours Wednesday, the Louisiana State Police Bureau of Investigations was requested by the Washington Parish Sheriff’s Office to investigate an officer-involved shooting incident in Mount Hermon. The incident resulted in the death of Dustin A. Crain, 28, of Mt. Hermon.
Trooper Jeremy Price said that the preliminary investigation revealed that, shortly after 10 p.m., WPSO deputies were dispatched to an address on Albert Magee Road in Mt. Hermon, in reference to a domestic violence incident.
“As deputies arrived at the residence, Crain armed himself with two large knives and confronted the responding deputies,” Price said. “During the course of the interaction, a deputy fired his duty weapon, striking Crain. He sustained fatal injuries and was pronounced deceased on scene by the Washington Parish Coroner’s Office. No law enforcement personnel were injured in the incident.”
Price said that the Louisiana State Police Crime Lab has processed the incident scene and the investigation is active and ongoing, with no further information available at this time.
“As is proper in such situations, an outside independent law enforcement agency is conducting this investigation,” Washington Parish Sheriff Randy Seal said. “Any loss of life is always tragic and our deepest sympathy is extended to the family of the deceased. This unfortunate occurrence is a stark reminder of the danger that law enforcement officers may face at any time they respond to a call for assistance.”
