A poem to honor the great ‘Dr. B’

Dear Editor,

I would like to share this poem that I wrote about a great man, the late Dr. Gerald Berenson.

“A Tribute to Dr. Gerald Berenson”

A fine honorable man was Dr. B

As you will soon see

A great friend and boss

His passing was a great loss

Family meant a lot in his life

Of great value was his wife

You know what they say

And it’s true to this day

Behind every great man

There is a great woman

He had a dream that is true

It meant a lot to me and you

Our children were close to his heart

The “Bogalusa Heart Study” he did start

They hired the people to get it done

It was a program that he had won

We went to the schools with a mobile home

To check the children that did come

First on the list was a little prick

Then some cereal of their pick

Over to the trailer for much more

Height, weight, physical and out the door

Back to the gym for blood pressure

All of them are such a treasure

It was not all work we say

We had fun time and play

Many times we went to Windy Hill Ranch in the sun

To picnic, fish and have some fun

Dr. B would show us his cattle

Not to do so would be a battle

We had a Christmas party each year

Presents and food did abound

Joan came with Dr. B

We were happy to see her we all agree

Dr. B traveled to far away places

They were interested in what we do

That was fine with me and you

Some came to the U.S.A.

To check us out on that day

I’m so happy that I knew Dr. B

He was special to many as well as me

So hats off to him this day

That’s all I have to say.

In Loving Memory
