We are into August, which means one thing — football season is not far off.

Local high school teams and high school teams across the state have been preparing for the new season and are gearing up for success in 2019.

The season starts unofficially with scrimmages, followed by jamborees and then the regular season.

The MAIS schools, Ben’s Ford Christian School and Ben’s Ford Christian School both have scrimmages on Aug. 9. Bowling Green hosts Adams County Christian School while Ben’s Ford travels to Wilkinson County Christian Academy.

The following week, Ben’s Ford competes in the Prentiss Christian School Jamboree.

Bowling Green begins the season the following day in the Cramton Bowl in Alabama.

Ben’s Ford starts the regular season on Aug. 23 at home against Rebul Academy.

For the local LHSAA teams, scrimmages take place the week of Aug. 22. Franklinton hosts Hammond, Pine is at home against Albany and Bogalusa travels to Fontainebleau. Those games are on Aug. 22. Varnado is holding an intrasquad scrimmage. The date is still TBA.

All four teams are competing in the Washington Parish Jamboree on Aug. 30.

The regular season for them begins the week of Sept. 5.

Varnado is on the road Sept. 5 against Thrive Academy.

The following day, Pine hosts Jewel Sumner, Bogalusa travels to Istrouma and Franklinton heads to Covington to begin the 2018 year.

Good luck to all of the local teams this year.
