Cornelius Sykes

Mr. Cornelius Sykes was born June 20, 1946, to the late Velma Louise Brown and Larry Sykes in New Orleans. He departed this life on July 9, 2019, at the age of 73; he left this earthly life and transitioned to his period of eternal rest in Bogalusa.

Visitation will be held Sunday, July 14, at the chapel of Crain and Sons Funeral Home in Bogalusa, from 1 p.m. until 4 p.m. The funeral service will be Monday, July 15, at noon at the funeral home, with the Rev. A.D. Spikes officiating.

Interment will be in the Bogalusa Cemetery.

Cornelius leaves to cherish his loving memories: a devoted wife, Johnnie D. Sykes; a devoted daughter, Krystle N. Sykes; four sons, Anthony James, Perry Sykes, David Sykes and Isaiah Cornelius Sykes; a devoted granddaughter, Ed’Ricka A. Adams; a wonderful mother-in-law, Mrs. Elnora Dubb; two sisters-in-law, Sylvia R. Dubb and Brenda W. (James) Porter; brothers and sisters who loved their brother dearly, Jeanette Brown Anderson, Charles (Sandra) Brown, Patricia Henry, Marshall W. Smith Sr., Albert W. (Sybill) Smith Sr., Rose Mary Smith, Beverly Caston, and Janice B. (Fred) O’Neals; special nephews, Brandon (Brittany) Smith, Reginal Weary and wife; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and many adoring friends.

Mr. Sykes was preceded in death by his parents, Velma Brown Gatlin and Larry Sykes.
