Winter school sports coming to an end

Basketball and soccer teams are looking to finish the season strong and either make a run for the playoffs or attempt to improve their playoff positioning.

It is an exciting time of year where every game means so much more right now, because there are not that many games left.

Following the basketball and soccer seasons, we will move into the spring sports, as baseball, softball, track and field, golf and tennis get under way.

Local MAIS schools Ben’s Ford Christian School and Bowling Green School are only about two weeks from opening day.

Bowling Green starts the season Feb. 9 while Ben’s Ford begins on Feb. 12.

While this is all going on, the powerlifters are competing in their season.

Bogalusa and Franklinton competed at Pope John Paul II last week in their first meet of the season. Bogalusa will compete again Jan. 26 at St. Thomas Aquinas.

Varnado’s first meet is Feb. 2 at Salmen and Franklinton is headed to that meet as well.

We wish the local basketball, soccer and powerlifting teams good luck the rest of the season and the local spring sports teams good luck in their upcoming seasons.
