Visit ‘The Wall’ while you can

For a few more days, Washington Parish residents have the opportunity to take advantage of a unique visit from “The Wall That Heals.”

The Wall is a three-fourths replica of the Vietnam Veterans Memorial in Washington, D.C., and will remain open 24/7 at the Franklinton fairgrounds until its closing ceremony Sunday at 1 p.m.

It is virtually impossible to not be awestruck and humbled by the thousands of names that grace the length of the wall. Each name represents an American who was killed in the Vietnam War. There are more than 58,000 names engraved, and the wall is 375 feet long and 7.5 feet high.

In addition to the wall, there is also a mobile “Education Center” that provides additional information about the Vietnam Veterans Memorial, including a searchable database of names.

If you have not already visited, we encourage you to take advantage of this unique event. It’s not feasible for everyone to visit the nation’s capital, but this weekend, The Wall That Heals is just a few miles away.
