Janis Lee Holmes

Ms. Janis Lee Holmes, affectionately known as “Jan,” 64, passed away Thursday, July 12, 2018, at University Hospital in New Orleans.

Jan was born Feb. 22, 1954, to the union of the late Ellis Holmes and Margaret Cowart Holmes and was the third of five children.

Jan attended Central Elementary and graduated from Bogalusa High School in 1972. Following graduation, she worked at the Box Plant for a brief period before becoming disabled.

She leaves to cherish her memories: a sister, Alia Johnson; and a brother, James Holmes of Bogalusa; three nephews whom she helped rear, Travis Holmes of Germany, Darrin (Michelle) Holmes and John Downey (Toya) Jr. of Bogalusa; two great-nephews, Darrin Holmes and John Downey III of Bogalusa; a great-niece, La’Kenya Porter of Baton Rouge; an aunt, Beulah Cowart of Tylertown, Miss.; special cousins, Willie (JoAnn) Bridges of Bogalusa, and Mike Bridges of Baton Rouge; and a host of aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins and friends to mourn her passing.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Ellis and Margarette Holmes; sister, Mary Holmes Hatcher; and brother, Jeffery Holmes.

Graveside service will be held Friday, July 20, at the Bogalusa Cemetery with the Rev. Theodore Newman officiating at 10 a.m.

Interment will be in the Bogalusa Cemetery.
