Keep vets in mind during long weekend

Memorial Day weekend has begun.

For a lot of people, that means a much-needed three-day weekend and a chance to take an extra day to relax and spend time away from work.

Some people will use the long weekend to travel.

Whatever your plans are, please be sure to remember the reason for Memorial Day, which is to remember those who have died in active military service.

If you are traveling over the holiday weekend, please be sure to drive safely. If you are going to be drinking, have a designated driver.

There are also several events going on throughout the parish during the weekend. Varnado Store Museum in Franklinton will have a program Sunday at 3 p.m., and Poole’s Bluff Nature Park will have a program Monday at 12:30 p.m. Those who are able to travel should take the time to attend a program like these, or similar programs in the area.

We hope everyone has a safe and fun Memorial Day weekend and we thank those who have fought for our freedom.
