Earlier this week, a local golf team and an individual golfer capped off solid seasons at the state tournaments.

Franklinton’s golf team and Pine’s Tanner McKenzie made it to the state meets.

Both competitions took place Monday and Tuesday.

Reaching the state tournament begins at the district level. The top four teams and the top four individuals that are not on a qualifying team advance from district to regionals and the requirements are the same to go from regionals to state.

Franklinton finished eighth in the state Division II state tournament. It was a historic year for the Demons’ golf team, as it was just the third time in school history the Demons reached the state meet.

McKenzie, who is a junior, finished sixth in the Division III with a combined 150 for the two days with rounds of 73 and 77.

The third- through seventh-place scores were close, as they were separated by just three strokes.

McKenzie was just two strokes from third place.

Congrats to Franklinton’s golf team and McKenzie on reaching the state meets.
