Saturday vote made a difference

Dear Editor,

This past Saturday, April 28, 2018, the people of Bogalusa went to the polls to cast their vote on the proposed property tax. When the polls closed at 8 p.m. and all the votes were counted, the votes were a overwhelming fat “No.”

The results of this past election day should send a clear message to the city and council members. This property tax was wrong in the first place as the property owners should not be the ones to bail the city out on this retirement/pension plan. The plan was in the hands of the city to keep up with.

Neglected and underfunded as this fund may be, it’s up to the city of Bogalusa to find other ways to make it right and correct it. Finger pointing and blame game corrects nothing. It must be addressed to find out what happened, and put corrective measures in place to protect this fund for the future of other employees.

I congratulate all the people that stood up before and during this election day. All the people came together to defeat this property tax measure. Voting does work, and you did it.
