The spring sports are underway across the parish, and with the weather being as nice as it has been, it is a great chance to get outside and enjoy the competition.

Five sports are in the early part of their seasons — baseball, softball, tennis, track and field and golf.

Plenty of action is taking place this weekend.

In baseball, the Franklinton Tournament began yesterday and runs through tomorrow with games taking place at FHS and Pine.

Today, Bowling Green, Bogalusa and Mt. Hermon are all on the road. Bowling Green faces Amite School Center, Bogalusa travels to Independence and Mt. Hermon faces Ecole CLassique and Patrick Taylor Science and Technology.

In softball, Varnado is headed to Grand Isle today.

Franklinton, Pine and Mt. Hermon are competing in the Jewel Sumner Tournament that takes place today and tomorrow.

Also at Jewel Sumner, Bogalusa, Franklinton, Mt. Hermon and Varnado are competing in a track meet. Pine is at a meet at Christ Episcopal.

In tennis, Franklinton is traveling to Hammond today.

On Tuesday, golfers from Bogalusa and Franklinton are competing at Oak Harbor Golf Club while Pine and Varnado golfers go to Carter Plantation on Tuesday.

Later next week is the powerlifting state championships, which features qualifiers from Franklinton and Varnado.

There is plenty of sports action going on and a great chance to support the local athletes in what we hope will be a successful year for all of our teams.
