Avoid too much over-commercialism

The Daily News encourages you to not give in to the over-commercialization of Christmas. It is a celebration of a life more than 2,000 years ago. We think it should remain just that, and we think that is more than enough. The spirit of his love is what it’s all about, and that is why we give gifts to those we hold dear.

It’s not because big business needs to make a killing. Don’t get your five-year old a cell phone or a computer. Do not burden him or her with those tunnel vision ties to technology at such an early age.

Christmas is about a good and gentle spirit. It’s about being pure of heart. It’s about the community in which you live. And it’s about sharing experiences and love.

Instead of overbuying, make some magical memories with your 5-year old. Take him or her to “Christmas in the Park,” and walk through to give them the most nature filled, solemn and special experience they can have. Or put Christmas lights on your house, and let the children help you.

Remember that Christmas is a celebration of a man who always taught love and shared his own.
