The Louisiana High School Athletic Association football playoffs are here and four local teams begin what they hope will be a postseason run that finishes up with hoisting the state championship trophy on the floor of the Mercedes-Benz Superdome in mid-December.
Every playoff game is win or go home.
Pine and Varnado are hosting first-round games and the four teams play tonight at 7 p.m.
Pine (6-4), the 13th-seeded Class 2A team, begins its postseason run with a home game against West St. Mary (4-6). The winner will play either fourth-seeded Many (8-2) or No. 29 Ville Platte (3-7).
Class 1A and fourth-seeded Varnado (6-3) is at home and playing Ringgold (1-9). This the second-straight year and the third time in four years the teams are playing in the opening round of the postseason. Varnado has won the other two meetings 44-6 last season and 44-8 two years ago. The winner will face the winner of No. 13 Arcadia (4-5) and 20th-seeded White Castle (2-8).
Bogalusa and Franklinton are both on the road.
Bogalusa (4-5), the 23rd-seeded Class 3A team, is headed to Jennings (7-2). The winner will go against either seventh-seeded Church Point (8-1) or No. 26 Carroll (4-6).
Franklinton (3-7), which is the No. 27 seed in Class 4A, goes to Leesville (9-1). The winner will play either No. 11 Rayne (7-2) or 22nd-seeded Helen Cox (5-5).
Good luck to everybody in the first round of the playoffs.
