Many chances to help

As the weather gets cooler and we move closer to Thanksgiving and Christmas, it’s the time of year where we start thinking about those who are less fortunate than us.
Thankfully, those who want to help have plenty of opportunities to do so this month. Here are just a few of the upcoming events that will benefit good causes in our community in October:
- Next Saturday, Oct. 28, is the Our Lady of the Angels Hospital Foundation’s “An Evening with the Angels” silent and live auction. This event will be held at the American Legion starting at 6 p.m. and tickets are $50 each and available at the hospital.
There will be a variety of fun games and activities, in addition to the auctions. Also there will be a great meal and drinks. All proceeds will benefit the foundation, which helps to fund needed equipment and other needs for the hospital. These improvements help to improve the quality of health care in our entire community.
- Also Saturday, Oct. 28, is the Knights of Columbus’s annual turkey shoot. This event will also be at the American Legion, from 10 a.m. until 3 p.m. This is the largest fundraiser of the year for the Knights, who make regular donations throughout the year to local charities and also participate in various other projects.
- The American Legion Post will also have a fish sale to benefit the flood victims in Houston, on Friday, Oct. 27, from 11 a.m. until 2 p.m. in the parking lot at Tractor Supply in Bogalusa.
As you can see, there are lots of opportunities to help this month. Be sure to check our Community Calendar — which typically publishes on Page 3 on Wednesday and Friday, and on Page 2B in the weekend edition — to stay up to date on the latest events in our area.
