Losing teams have opportunity to rebound

Last week was a tough week as a whole for local teams, which combined for a 2-4 record, in the third week of MAIS play and the first week of LHSAA competition.

Bogalusa and Pine each began 2017 with a 1-0 record and both won in convincing fashion.

Bogalusa was victorious over Northlake Christian School, 30-0, while Pine downed Central Catholic, 27-8.

It was a great week for both, as they had solid performances to open the new year.

Tonight, both schools will attempt to reach the 2-0 mark. Bogalusa plays its home opener against Chalmette while Pine heads across the parish to take on the Varnado Wildcats.

Unfortunately for the others, it is a chance to rebound.

Franklinton lost to Covington, 69-32, Varnado was defeated, 25-16, against Albany, Ben’s Ford Christian School lost to Amite School Center, 36-7, and Bowling Green lost to Silliman Institute, 41-6.

Tonight, plenty of choices if you want to see high school football without leaving the parish, as four of the five contests are at home.

Only one local team is on the road and that’s Bowling Green heading to Wayne Academy.

The rest of the schedule has Franklinton in its home opener with a contest against Fontainebleau. Varnado hosts Pine and Ben’s Ford plays Centreville Academy.

Good luck to all of the teams to either make it 2-0 or bounce back from a tough week.
