Lawler Gatlin

Lawler “Butch” Franklin Gatlin, 76, passed away on Sunday, July 23, 2017, at Hospice of Northwest Ohio in Toledo, Ohio.

Born on Feb. 15, 1941, in Bogualusa, to Otis and Grace (Herrington) Gatlin, he served his country honorably in the U.S. Marine Corps, as a helicopter pilot in the Vietnam War. Later work included pharmaceutical representative, exercise psychologist, and PGA club professional. Butch was loyal, kind, hardworking, and generous and an avid runner and golfer. His camaraderie will be missed by his fellow veterans; his laughter and work ethic by his co-workers; his loving concern by his church family; his strength and affection will be missed and fondly remembered by his family.

Butch is survived by his loving wife of 30 years, Sallie; children, Daphne (Don) Monistere, Justin (Michelle) Gatlin, Jonathan (Noelle) Gatlin, Jay Gatlin, Tai (Craig) French and Deena (Christian) Simpson; 18 grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents; grandchildren, Emily and Harrison Gatlin; and sister, Joellen.

Visitation will be held from 10 a.m. until 1 p.m. on Thursday, July 27, at Christ the Word Church, located at 3100 Murd Road in Sylvania, Ohio. Funeral services will follow at 1 p.m. in the church. Interment will be held at a later date in Great Lakes National Cemetery in Holly, Mich.
