Funeral services for Mrs. Hilda Mae Hughes Herring Turnage, 88, were held at 11 a.m. on Thursday, July 20, from the chapel of Hartman-Hughes Funeral Home. The Rev. Harold Gaddy and Rev. Carl Dickens officiated. Burial was in the Centerville Cemetery in Dexter.
Mrs. Turnage passed away at Rest Haven Living Center in Bogalusa, on Tuesday, July 18, 2017. She was born Oct. 4, 1928, in Walthall County, Miss., to the late Wesley and Minnie McKenzie Hughes.
In addition to her parents, she was also preceded in death by her husbands, Douglas Herring and N. G. Turnage; brother, Lavern Hughes; grandchild, Kirbi Herring; and son-in-law, Stanley Reeves.
Mrs. Turnage was a very active member of the Bible Baptist Church in Thomas as long as she was able, and she enjoyed singing and listening to gospel music.
Survivors include her son, Jerry Herring and wife Charline; daughters, Brenda West and husband Bill, Pam Fortenberry and husband Bobby, and Kay Reeves; brothers, Doyle Hughes and Billy Hughes; grandchildren, Clint Herring, Jeri Lynn Ponthieux, Elizabeth Ridell, Luke Fortenberry, Jody Fortenberry and Sissy Law; great-grandchildren, Presley Seal, Annabella Seal, Gentry Seal, Stella Law and Luna Law; and a special nephew, Wayne Hilton, wife Amanda and child Callie.
Pallbearers were Bobby Fortenberry, Bill West, Wayne Hilton, Clint Herring, Randy Ponthieux, and Luke Fortenberry. The alternate pallbearer was Gentry Seal.
Visitation was at Hartman-Hughes Funeral Home on Thursday, July 20, from 9 a.m. until service time there at 11 a.m.
