When Tanika Keys-Mingo, Christian Ransfer, LaSharta Scott and Dana Walker initiated Light Up the City in Bogalusa, the idea was to promote unity, fun, and physical activity while also benefitting local businesses. The group’s first lighted-bicycle ride, in May, attracted at least 60 participants, and the group is making its second run this Saturday.

The Daily News commends the organizers and the participants. We encourage participation for the sake of community unity, having fun in Bogalusa, being physically active, and the local businesses that the riders stop at regularly along their approximately eight-mile ride.

It’s free to ride, and everybody who is at least 18 years old is invited to take part. The group will meet for embarkation in the parking lot next to the Magnolia Garden Inn at 7 p.m. on Saturday, July 8. The organizers ask that anyone who joins the ride wear a “neon” shirt and light up their bikes.

If you do ride, you could play a part in the movement towards positivity and a unified community spirit. And you’ll get some exercise. We believe that those are all good for Bogalusa.
