Thrilled parents will be moving

Spring always gives me great memories of my family growing up. It was a time when dad and I would watch Atlanta Braves baseball games or the Masters, and mom would work hard to be sure that the kids had plenty of eggs to dye for Easter. The weather was getting nicer, so I could play outside more often with my brother and sister. It also meant that swimming temperatures wouldn’t be too far away.

That’s why I’m anxious for my parents to move from Branson, Missouri, to Gulfport, Mississippi. They’re not quite sure when the move will happen, although they’ve already bought the house and hope to get started sometime in the summer.

While I didn’t mind going up to Missouri for the holidays, it will be much nicer and convenient to only have to drive an hour-and-a-half this Christmas. I know it will make my mom much happier as well. She loved the South and misses the warm weather and cheerful people.

I thank God every day that I have such a wonderful family and still have a good relationship with them. I know that many are not as lucky. I love that it won’t be long now before I can jet over to New Orleans and see a Pelicans game with my dad, or invite mom and dad up to see the MCCA parade. And I know that he and I are both looking forward to that first long road trip to see the Braves’ new home at SunTrust Park.

While I am sad that I won’t get to see my family this Easter — our schedules just didn’t work out — I am happy to know that it soon I’ll be able to see them just about any time I’d like.
