Varnado’s Travon Stokes did something last weekend that every athlete hopes to be able to do at some point during their high school career.

He won a state title.

At the Fant-Ewing Coliseum on the campus of the University of Louisiana at Monroe last Friday, Stokes captured the Division V powerlifting state title for the 165-pound weight class.

Stokes lifted a combined 1,200 pounds. He had a 435 squat, 315 bench and 450 deadlift.

As if that wasn’t great enough, he also won the outstanding lifter award for the 114-165 pound weight classes.

It was an outstanding day for Stokes, who is a senior.
