The Daily News encourages community support, and there is an opportunity to have a lot of fun while doing just that next Saturday, March 18. The 10th annual Museums of Cassidy Park CookOff/BBQ will take place in the park from 2 p.m. through 5 p.m.
You’ll be able to sample the finest beef, pork, fowl, seafood and wild game dishes of at least 14 competing teams for only $15, and children 12 and under get in free when accompanied by an adult. Also, Col. Robert Miller’s Bogalusa Explorer Post 313 and the Bush Venturers Crew 213 will offer the kids free canoe rides. And if the day is warm, the park’s splash pad is now open.
Also, Big Daddy O and The Dynamic Duo of Keenan Knight will make the experience even sweeter by providing their acclaimed musical accompaniment.
The museums were damaged and displaced by the floods last March, and are trying to remain a presence in the community while they search for a permanent new location.
As a small city, we are blessed to have the museums to record and preserve local history. Fortunately, a wealth of our treasures survived the flood because of museum volunteers who worked hard, through unpleasant conditions, to salvage documents and artifacts.
It’s a worthy cause, and besides, we Louisianans just love to gather around the table, serenaded by great music, and watch our children play.
