Buccaneers deserve credit for comeback

We’ve seen great comebacks in sports and we’ve seen teams make comebacks, but fall short.

For some, the greatest comeback was watching the Buffalo Bills overcome a 35-3 deficit in the 1993 NFL playoffs to defeat the Houston Oilers, 41-38, in overtime. There have been many others throughout the history of sports.

On Tuesday night, Bowling Green’s boys basketball team had a rough first quarter.

The Buccaneers’ offense was struggling with turnovers and missed shots and Forrest County seemingly couldn’t miss. Forrest County hit five 3-pointers and led 27-1 after the first quarter.

But over the years in sports, we’ve been taught to expect the unexpected.

The chances of Bowling Green — which at one point was down 41-12 in the second quarter — coming back and making a game of it didn’t look real good, but the Buccaneers did just that.

They still trailed 43-20 at halftime, but chipped away at the lead throughout the second half.

The Bucs trimmed it to 61-47 through three and 61-49 early in the fourth.

At this point, the Buccaneers were just a good run away from being right back in the game. They made that run. Trailing 64-51, Bowling Green scored seven in a row and were right back in it at 64-58 with still 4:42 on the clock.

Unfortunately for Bowling Green, Forrest County countered the run with an 8-0 spurt to essentially put the game out of doubt with 2:42 left.

Bowling Green may have lost the game, but the Bucs deserve credit for hanging tough and coming back.
