Bevie Simmons

Bevie Hunt Stuart Simmons, 86, went to her heavenly home on Tuesday, Jan. 3, 2017.
Born April 12, 1930, she was a member of Pine First Baptist Church and volunteered at Mile Branch Village for many years. She graduated as salutatorian of Pine High School in 1946. She loved her church and was a vital part of her Ladies Mission Group, who has sown over 30 thousand baby diapers and blankets for a mission in Africa.
She was an expert seamstress and made many baby blankets for grandchildren, great grandchildren and family friends. She also became an excellent quilter and made quilts and Swedish blankets for children and grandchildren. Likewise, she will forever be remembered for her expertise in the kitchen-especially her cakes and jellies.
She was happiest when surrounded by family and friends and when doing something for others. She leaves a legacy of faith, love, service, commitment and determination.
She is survived by a daughter and son-in-law, Shirley and Gary Bordelon of Pensacola, Fla.; four sons and daughters-in-law, Gary and Sandra Stuart of Sumrall, Miss., Greg and Angela Stuart of Franklinton, Jimmy and Diana Stuart of Pine, and Brad and Amy Stuart of Independence; two stepdaughters, Chanda Simmons and Reid Corkern of Florence, Ala., and Jamie Simmons and Brett Simpson of Mt. Hermon; 13 grandchildren and spouses, Toby and Sarah Bordelon, Tiffany B. and David Walsh, Brandi S. and Jeremy Crane, Lisa S. and Hunter Smith, Amber S. and Jeffrey DeLee, Angela S. and Kenny Martin, Matthew Stuart, Dana and Coy McIntyre, Sherwin and Brytini Stuart, Joshua and Casey Stuart, Tommy and Karen Vise, Sarah and Rodger Collier, and Debralyn Holland; 22 great-grandchildren; a brother, Houston Hunt of Pine; and numerous nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her first husband, Lavon Stuart; her second husband, J.C. Simmons; her parents, Spurgeon and Ida Mae Hunt; four brothers and two sisters.
Visitation was at Crain Funeral Home on Thursday, Jan. 5, from 6 p.m. until 9 p.m. Visitation was at Pine First Baptist on Friday, Jan. 6, after 9 a.m., with a funeral service held at 11 a.m. at church with Rev. David Easterling, Rev. Michael Brumfield and Lavon Taylor officiating.
Pallbearers were grandsons Toby Bordelon, Sherwin Stuart, Joshua Stuart, Matthew Stuart, Tommy Vise and great-grandson Connor Crane.
