On Tuesday, Dec. 13, 2016, God sent his angels to come to her residence in Slidell to claim the soul of “Mary Eliza,” Mrs. Mary Eliza Young Burkhalter Thomas. Her battle with sickness came to an end, at the age of 84.
Visitation will be held on Thursday, Dec. 22, at 10 a.m. at Christ Temple Church of Christ Holiness, located at 619 W. 30th Ave. in Covington, until the time of the service at 11 a.m., with Elder Jerold Ramsey, pastor, and Elder Jesse Wilton Burkhalter Jr., officiating.
Interment will be in the Walker Young Cemetery in Sun.

She leaves to cherish her memories: three daughters, Irma (Rufus) Adams of Slidell, Linda (Limmie) Marshall of Indianola, Miss., and Janice Hart of Slidell; two sons, Vincent (Shelia) Burkhalter of LaCombe, and Jesse (Cynthia) Burkhalter Jr. of Norfolk, Va.; two brothers, Steve Young of New Orleans and Tyree (Marilyn) Young Jr. of Covington; four sisters, Ella Rose (George) Harvey of Franklinton, Katherine Simmons of New Orleans, Barbara Bell of Sun, and Naomi Dell (Cleon) Morgan of Pine Bluff, Ark.; and a host of grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and other relatives and friends.
She was preceded in death by: her husbands, Jesse Burkhalter Sr. and Horace Thomas; one son, Edmond Burkhalter; five brothers, William Young, Rudolph Young, John Wesley Young, Elder Alfred Young Sr. and Denver Young.
