All-district teams recognize solid seasons

With the fall sports coming to an end this weekend, the all-district teams for football and volleyball are being announced.

The all-district and all-state teams are a chance for the deserving athletes to be recognized for their accomplishments from the season.

The all-district teams are not allowed to be released until every team in the district has had its season come to an end.

As we continue to get the all-district teams, one thing that is very noticeable is how many names from this area are on the first teams.

Also, this parish has also had two players win defensive MVP awards for their district in Franklinton’s Chandler Scott and Varnado’s Damon Kirsh.

Also winning one of the big all-district awards was Varnado coach Scott Shaffett, who was named Coach of the Year.

He helped lead the Wildcats to a District 8-1A title and the Wildcats reached the quarterfinal round of the playoffs.

Schools that have volleyball in the parish either started it in the last few years or restarted it in the last couple of seasons.

Franklinton’s Lexi Williams is a first-team all-district player.

The all-district selections show how good athletics is in the parish.

We have already had a couple of the all-district articles published in the paper, with more to follow in coming editions.
