The hard work and long hours that the local Venturer Crews, Bogalusa 313 and Bush 213, have put into the water began to come to fruition yesterday, as the scouts began the first of their two longest races of the year.

Throughout the spring and summer months, the crews practice to improve their canoeing skills and compete in several races.

Currently, the scouts are competing in the Bogue Chitto Race, which began yesterday and runs through tomorrow.

The 110-mile event concludes in Sun around the middle of the day on Saturday.

After the awards ceremony, the crews head to Arkansas for the 50th annual Invitational White River Canoe Race.

This 3-day event is 120 miles and takes place from July 28-30.

Over the years, the crews have experienced plenty of success in the races and hopefully this year will be no different.

Good luck to the crews in bringing home titles in canoe racing.
