The July 4 weekend is here and that gives everybody a chance to take a step back and realize how lucky we are to live in a free country.

It’s a chance to reflect on the sacrifices people have made throughout history, to ensure that each one of us has those rights and freedoms.

Throughout the extended weekend, several events are taking place in the area to commemorate the fourth.

On Monday, the annual Fourth of July parade is being held at 10 a.m. and will feature Bogalusa native Brigadier General Lee Hopkins as the grand marshal. The event will honor living veterans. It begins on Columbia Street and ends in the Bogalusa High School Willis Avenue Parking lot.

There are also fireworks planned in the city on Monday night at approximately 8:30 p.m.

Be sure to help support the local events, enjoy the long weekend, be safe while doing so, but also remember those who have sacrificed for your freedom.
