The NCAA regionals came out on Monday, as conference tournament champions found out where they will be playing this weekend and non-conference champs found if they made it and where they’ll be playing.
The University of Southern Mississippi was in the former group. On Sunday, the Golden Eagles defeated Rice in the Conference USA Championship to clinch an automatic bid into the NCAA regionals.
USM is playing in the Tallahassee Regional in Florida. The second-seeded Golden Eagles (40-18) are facing third-seeded University of South Alabama (40-20) at 11 a.m. today.
One of USM’s players is former Demons player Clay Tageant, who graduated from Franklinton in 2011.
Tageant, a pitcher, has seen limited playing time this year, but has been solid on the mound. This year, Tageant has no record with an 0.84 ERA in 13 appearances. He has 10 strikeouts and nine walks and opponents are hitting just .167 against him.
Good luck to Tageant and the Golden Eagles.
