The track & field season came to a close Saturday at the state meet, which took place at Bernie Moore Stadium on the campus of LSU.

The meet took place last Thursday-Saturday and Washington Parish was well represented in the meet and on the podium.

The top three finishers from each event get to stand on the podium and receive medals for the place they finish.

Mt. Hermon’s Gerald Bunch captured two state titles, as he won the long jump (21 feet, 9.75 inches) and the 200-meters (22.55 seconds). His 200 time was just 0.44 seconds off of the Class B record, which was set in 1985.

On Saturday, three Franklinton athletes got on the podium.

Deante Cotton was second in the discus (152-3) while Martavius James (49.89) and Porsha Delatte (16.29) had third-place finishes in the 400-meters and 100-hurdles, respectively.

Congratulations to these athletes and all of the others who made it to the state tournament.
